The Sea Girt Letter Writing Party
is now a
Presidential Speech Watch Party
511 Crescent Parkway, Sea Girt NJ 08750
Wednesday, September 9, 2009
7pm –9pm
As many of us are probably aware, President Obama will be addressing Congress on the evening of the Sea Girt Letter Writing Party, Wednesday, September 9th, 2009.
In recognition of this, the format of the Letter Writing Party has changed. We will still begin at 7pm, and we will still give a presentation about the Health Care Reform Bill, its place in the legislative process, and the best practices of writing letters to our elected officials. We will then watch the speech together and share our reactions.
Join us in a fun and social way to learn about Health Care Reform, how to take action, and watch the President lay out his plan to get Health Care Reform passed.
Any questions and RSVP’s should be sent to luisp@monmouthforchange.org or call (732) 804-9196.
Hope to see you all there!!!
Over the past couple of weeks as I presented at Letter Writing Parties in Belmar and Wall and Long Branch, I have gotten requests for contact information on members of the Senate Finance Committee, where the Health Care reform bill is currently held up. Here is a list of links to the Finance Committee Members’ websites. Go to their Contact Me page to get their Washington DC mailing address so you can send a letter.
For those who have not yet attended a Letter Writing Party, one of things we have discussed was how to get the attention of an out of State Senator or Congressman. Your best chance at having them respond to you is to announce early in your letter that you have friends and family in their district, and that you will be telling them to support Health care Reform.
Very Important!!! Please only do this if you actually do have friends and family in their districts. There is no need to lie. So check out the list of Senators below. If any are from states where you have friends and family, write them and tell them that you want their support for Health Care Reform with a strong public option.

We will learn about the current state of Health Care Reform and how to write to our Congressmen and newspaper editors and tell them to support Health Care Reform!
We will learn what to say and how to say it effectively, respectfully and firmly.
We will write our letters then and there, go over each other’s letter for accuracy and integrity, share them with each other and then seal them for mailing.
Why letters, especially handwritten ones? Hand written letters
MUST BE READ BY SOMEONE. They cannot be scanned.
Also, they CANNOT be shouted down or disrupted!!!
Health Care Reform is too important an issue for people to be misinformed.
Join us in a fun and social way of taking action and standing up for
Health Care Reform!!!
HAVE YOUR SAY AND MAKE IT HEARD!!!
Writing materials will be provided, but please bring a stamp!!!
Today President Obama visited Monmouth County at the PNC Arts Center, where he stood up for Governor Corzine and spoke about the importance of health care reform.
Several Monmouth For CHANGE members were able to attend the event, including Lanette Rozier, Luis Pulido, Lenore Robinson, and Phyllis Garr.
Check out some photos from the event below:

Monmounth for CHANGE was at the Asbury Park Jaz Festival, where we handed out literature and educated people about the current Healthcare debate going on in Congress, and gave a FREE blood pressure screening. Organized and run by Bill and Linda Johnson of Neptune, and supported by Phyllis Garr of Marlboro, and others, the event was a success! Here are some pictures from that event:

Transparency in government does not come without responsibility. If we are to hold our elected officials accountable,we must first know what they are charged to do. How much do you know about the function of the county Freeholders who make decisions that directly impact you and your family?

John D'Amico
Please join Monmouth County For Change as we host an evening with Deputy Freeholder Director John D’Amico who will deliver a PowerPoint presentation on the roles and responsibilities of a county Freeholder. There will be opportunity to have your questions answered regarding this vital position in county government.
As you plan to join us, plan also to bring a friend or two who may not otherwise have known about this event. The more we can get people who are unengaged in the government process to become engaged, or to at least educate them on how government affects them or can serve them, the more effectively we as citizens can hold our elected officials to account as they serve our needs.
The event will be held at the Monmouth County Public Library in Shrewsbury on Thursday, May 21 from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM. All are welcome to attend and the event is free.
On Sunday, May 3rd, 2009, we held our Celebrate 100 Days with 100 Ways To Serve event at the Gazebo in Belmar, NJ. The wet weather may have kept turnout low, but it didn’t dampen our spirits as we celebrated this milestone in our president’s term. Approximately 25 people came out to show their support and to select from 100 ways to volunteer their time to serve in their communities.
Among those attending the event were several candidates for office in Monmouth County, who took a moment to say a few words to the group.
